Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, has confirmed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has given his blessing to his ambition to contest the 2027 Lagos State governorship election.

Speaking on his political consultations ahead of the polls, Hamzat expressed confidence in the strong support and endorsement he has received from the President, describing it as a significant boost to his aspiration to succeed Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

“President Tinubu has blessed my governorship ambition,” Hamzat stated, underscoring the pivotal role of the President’s guidance and long-term vision for the continued development and prosperity of Lagos State.

This development comes as Hamzat intensifies wide-ranging consultations with key stakeholders, including members of the Lagos State Governance Advisory Council (GAC), APC leaders, and other critical interest groups within the state. Recent meetings have seen strong expressions of support from Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who described Hamzat as “well-baked,” “fit,” and “ready” for the leadership of Lagos, while also praising President Tinubu’s foresight in nurturing successive leadership for the state.

Several groups and leaders have also thrown their weight behind the Deputy Governor. The Lagos State chapter of the Renewed Hope Labourers Network (RHLN) recently endorsed both President Tinubu for a second term and Dr. Hamzat as the preferred candidate for the 2027 governorship, hailing both as “tested reformers.” Chief of Staff to the President, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, and Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, have similarly voiced strong support following consultations.

Hamzat’s political journey in Lagos dates back to 2005 when he served as Commissioner for Science and Technology under then-Governor Bola Tinubu. He has since built a reputation for competence, technocratic expertise, and dedication to public service across multiple administrations.

As consultations continue, the Deputy Governor remains focused on building broad-based consensus within the All Progressives Congress (APC) and across Lagos State for a seamless leadership transition that sustains the momentum of infrastructure development, economic growth, and good governance that has defined Lagos under the Tinubu-Sanwo-Olu lineage.
