President Bola Ahmed Tinubu today received the President of the Republic of Chad, Marshal Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno, at the Presidential Villa, Aso Rock, Abuja.
The bilateral meeting, which commenced at approximately 2:00 p.m., provided an opportunity for the two leaders to review and deepen cooperation on matters of mutual interest, with a strong emphasis on regional security, particularly joint efforts to combat terrorism and instability in the Lake Chad Basin. Discussions also covered enhanced economic collaboration, trade relations, and broader bilateral ties between Nigeria and Chad.
This visit marks President Déby Itno’s first official trip to Nigeria since President Tinubu attended his inauguration in N’Djamena on May 23, 2024. The engagement underscores the longstanding historical, cultural, and economic bonds shared by the two neighbouring countries and their shared commitment to peace, stability, and development in the Lake Chad region and the wider Sahel.
The closed-door session was attended by senior Nigerian officials, including National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu and Minister of Defence Christopher Musa, among others.
President Tinubu and President Déby Itno reaffirmed the strong partnership between Nigeria and Chad in addressing cross-border security challenges and advancing regional integration for the benefit of their citizens.
