President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Mr. Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe as the Minister of Power, subject to confirmation by the Senate.
The nomination, announced today by the Presidency, follows the resignation of the immediate past Minister of Power, Mr. Adebayo Adelabu, who stepped down to pursue his governorship ambitions in Oyo State.
The nomination has been formally transmitted to the Senate for screening and confirmation in accordance with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).
Mr. Tegbe, an indigene of Oyo State, is a highly accomplished fiscal and economic reform expert with over 35 years of distinguished professional experience. He is a former Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa, where he led high-level engagements on strategy, financial advisory, and economic reforms across the public and private sectors.
President Tinubu expressed confidence that Mr. Tegbe’s deep expertise in economic reforms, infrastructure financing, and strategic advisory will bring fresh impetus to the ongoing transformation of Nigeria’s power sector. The administration remains committed to stabilising the national grid, improving electricity supply, attracting sustainable investments, and delivering reliable power to Nigerian homes and industries.
The President urged the Senate to give the nomination expeditious consideration so that the new Minister can immediately assume office and continue driving the critical reforms aimed at achieving the Renewed Hope Agenda’s objectives in the energy sector.
