The First Lady of Nigeria, Oluremi Tinubu, has officially unveiled a food bank initiative in the North-East region as part of ongoing efforts to address food insecurity and support vulnerable populations affected by conflict and economic hardship.

The initiative, launched under the auspices of the Renewed Hope Initiative, is designed to provide consistent access to essential food supplies for internally displaced persons (IDPs), low-income households, and communities grappling with the aftermath of insurgency.

Speaking at the unveiling ceremony, the First Lady emphasized the importance of sustainable interventions in combating hunger, particularly in the North-East, which has faced prolonged humanitarian challenges. She noted that the food bank would serve as a critical lifeline, ensuring that families have access to nutritious meals while broader recovery efforts continue.

“This initiative reflects our commitment to alleviating the suffering of our people and restoring dignity to affected communities,” she said. “No Nigerian should go to bed hungry, and we are determined to play our part in making that a reality.”

The food bank is expected to operate through strategic partnerships with local authorities, community leaders, and humanitarian organizations to ensure efficient distribution and transparency. It will also incorporate mechanisms for periodic restocking and monitoring to meet the evolving needs of beneficiaries.

Stakeholders present at the event commended the initiative, describing it as timely and impactful, particularly in a region where food shortages and displacement have remained persistent concerns.

The unveiling marks a significant step in the Federal Government’s broader social investment agenda, aligning with efforts to promote food security, reduce poverty, and enhance community resilience across Nigeria.
