The Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has secured the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship ticket for the 2027 general elections after recording a landslide victory in the party’s primary held across the 23 Local Government Areas of the state.
Governor Alia, who was the sole formidable candidate after a rigorous screening process, polled an overwhelming majority of votes, demonstrating massive support from party delegates and members. The two other aspirants who initially expressed interest Jeffrey Kuranun and Pastor Terwase Orbunde could not match the incumbent’s popularity and grassroots acceptance.
Reacting to the outcome, Governor Alia expressed gratitude to APC leaders, delegates, and the people of Benue State for their unwavering confidence in his leadership. He pledged to redouble efforts towards delivering more developmental projects, ensuring peace, and improving the welfare of Benue citizens if re-elected.
The peaceful conduct of the primary has been widely commended as a reflection of internal democracy within the Benue APC under Governor Alia’s watch. Party stakeholders described the result as a strong endorsement of his performance in office since assuming power in 2023, particularly in areas of infrastructure, civil service reforms, and security.
The Benue State APC Chairman and the Governorship Primary Election Committee confirmed Governor Alia as the duly nominated candidate, describing the process as free, fair, and transparent.
This development positions Governor Alia as the APC’s flag bearer for the 2027 Benue State governorship election, as the party rallies behind his re-election bid for continued progress and transformation of the state.
