President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar today joined millions of Nigerian Muslims in observing the Eid-el-Kabir (Eid al-Adha) prayers, marking the Festival of Sacrifice.
President Tinubu observed the prayers at the Eid prayer ground in Dodan Barracks, Lagos, after arriving in the city early this morning. The President participated alongside thousands of worshippers, emphasizing themes of unity, peace, sacrifice, and national development.
In Abuja, Atiku Abubakar joined other Muslim faithful for the Eid prayers at the AYA Central Mosque Eid Prayer Ground. The former Vice President used the occasion to pray for peace, progress, and stability in the country.
Eid-el-Kabir, which commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s (Abraham’s) willingness to sacrifice his son in obedience to God, is being celebrated nationwide with the Federal Government declaring today, Wednesday, May 27, and tomorrow, Thursday, May 28, 2026, as public holidays.
The celebrations come amid calls from leaders across the political divide for Nigerians to embrace the values of compassion, sacrifice, tolerance, and unity as the nation continues to navigate its socio-economic challenges.
Both leaders are expected to issue separate Eid messages to the nation, urging renewed commitment to peace and collective nation-building.
