Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu has approved a special N50,000 wage award for all public sector workers in Lagos State for the month of May.

The Governor announced the relief package today during the International Workers’ Day celebration held at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Onikan, Lagos. The additional payment is designed to help workers cope with the prevailing economic challenges and rising cost of living, while also recognising their dedication and contributions to the state’s development.

“For the month of May, the Lagos State Government has approved an additional N50,000 for all workers. We are aware of the prevailing economic realities and remain committed to supporting our workforce,” Governor Sanwo-Olu stated.

This one-month wage award demonstrates the administration’s ongoing commitment to workers’ welfare. It comes on the heels of Lagos State’s implementation of the N85,000 minimum wage, one of the highest in the country, reflecting the state’s leadership in prioritising public service compensation and productivity.

Governor Sanwo-Olu reiterated that the welfare of Lagos workers remains a top priority of his administration. He commended the resilience and commitment of civil servants, local government employees, and other public sector workers who continue to deliver essential services that drive the state’s economic growth and improve the quality of life for residents. The N50,000 wage award will be paid alongside the regular May salary.

The Governor called on all workers to remain focused and dedicated, assuring them that the state government will continue to explore sustainable measures to improve their well-being while maintaining fiscal prudence.
