Former Adamawa State governorship candidate and Senator Aishatu Dahiru Binani (popularly known as Aisha Binani) has formally defected to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), nine months after leaving the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The high-profile defection was announced today as Senator Binani received her NDC membership card in a ceremony attended by party leaders and her teeming supporters. She cited the NDC’s commitment to structured, policy-driven governance, internal democracy, fairness, equity, and transparency as key reasons for her decision.
“I believe many Nigerians are asking why I decided to join the NDC. The answer is quite simple. After carefully studying the party’s constitution, I saw a strong commitment to structured, policy-driven governance,” Senator Binani said.
She added: “Some may point out that just nine months ago, I was at another party... my foremost priority has always been the interest of my supporters. About nine months ago, we collectively made the decision to join our former party. But over time... my supporters felt it was necessary to move on. They took the initiative and urged me to join the NDC.”
Senator Binani praised her political base for its loyalty and influence, noting that Adamawa State now boasts the highest number of registered NDC members. She expressed gratitude to the NDC’s National Working Committee for welcoming her and her supporters.
National Leader of the NDC, Senator Seriake Dickson, welcomed the defection, describing the party as an open and inclusive platform.
“This party is open, inclusive, and ready to harness your energy, ideas, and strength.
My dear sister, once again, you are welcome... The flag of leadership of the NDC in Adamawa has now been handed over to you,” Dickson stated. He extended an invitation to other dissatisfied politicians, emphasizing that “the NDC is that better vehicle strong, reliable, and focused on delivering results.”
Senator Binani, who represented Adamawa Central Senatorial District and was the APC’s 2023 governorship candidate in a closely contested election, is a prominent political figure in the Northeast. Her latest move is expected to significantly reshape the political landscape in Adamawa State as parties gear up for the 2027 general elections.
