Senator Sandy Onor, a distinguished chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and presidential aspirant, has officially purchased his Expression of Interest and Nomination forms for the 2027 presidential election.
The forms were acquired at the PDP National Secretariat in Abuja at a total cost of N51 million. Senator Onor becomes the first and, so far, only aspirant to obtain the PDP presidential nomination forms since the sale opened on April 27, 2026.
Speaking to journalists immediately after the purchase, Senator Onor addressed recent discussions surrounding the position of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, emphasizing that Wike’s support for President Bola Tinubu remains a personal stance and does not represent the official position of the PDP.
“Barrister Nyesom Wike is indisputably a leader of the party, but he is not the party,” Senator Onor stated. “The fact that I am running is a result of deep persuasion from several stakeholders of the party cutting across the country.”
Senator Onor, a known ally of the FCT Minister, further explained that Wike had sought and received the party’s permission before accepting his ministerial appointment. He noted that Wike’s decision to support President Tinubu aligns with personal integrity but does not bind the PDP’s direction ahead of the 2027 polls.
“If Nyesom Wike does not support President Tinubu, Nigerians will condemn him for lacking integrity and probity. He has the right to choose to support President Tinubu... However, the fact that he... has chosen to support the President does not mean that this is the direction the party will take,” he added.
The Senator pledged to provide courageous, capable, and responsible leadership if given the party’s mandate. He expressed confidence that Nigerians are yearning for a return to PDP-style governance and would choose the party’s candidate in the 2027 election. The PDP nomination process is scheduled to close on May 4, 2026.
