Celebrity bartender and socialite Pascal Okechukwu, popularly known as Cubana Chief Priest, has made a startling revelation regarding his relationship with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, admitting that his public support for Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi during the 2023 elections may have cost him the President’s full trust.
In a frank and emotional statement released today, Cubana Chief Priest addressed the political fallout from his much-publicised endorsement of Obi, acknowledging the lingering suspicion from the highest echelons of power.
“I will be honest President Tinubu doesn’t fully trust me. And I understand why. I supported Peter Obi when it was not popular to do so in my circle. That choice came with consequences, and I am man enough to own them,” he said.
The socialite, known for his flamboyant lifestyle and close ties to numerous political heavyweights, clarified that he holds no grudges against the President and continues to respect the office and the man.
“I am not a politician, but I am a citizen with a voice. In 2023, I exercised my democratic right to support who I believed in. That does not make me an enemy of the state or of President Tinubu. But I know that trust in politics is fragile, and once broken or even bent it is hard to restore.”
Cubana Chief Priest further emphasised that despite the perceived mistrust, he remains committed to the progress of Nigeria and has never worked against the administration.
“I have not, and will not, sabotage this government. I want Nigeria to succeed under Tinubu. But I cannot erase my past support for Peter Obi just to win favour. If that means I remain outside the inner circle, so be it. My conscience is clean.”
He called on the public and political observers to see his admission not as an act of disloyalty, but as an expression of political maturity.
“Trust can be rebuilt, but honesty cannot be faked. I am loyal to Nigeria first. And I respect President Tinubu enough to tell the truth about where we stand.”
No official reaction has yet been issued from the Presidency or the Office of the Chief of Staff regarding Chief Priest’s remarks.
