Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has hosted Nigerian international and Super Eagles winger, Samuel Chukwueze, in a high-profile meeting that highlighted the state’s commitment to sports development and youth empowerment.
During the warm reception held at the Government House, Umuahia, Governor Otti commended Chukwueze for his outstanding contributions to Nigerian football and his role in elevating the Super Eagles’ profile on the continental and global stage. The Governor described the Villarreal FC forward as an inspiration to young athletes across Abia State and Nigeria.
Speaking at the event, Governor Otti said: “Samuel Chukwueze represents the excellence and determination that we want every young person in Abia to emulate. His success story reinforces our belief that with the right infrastructure and opportunities, Abia can produce world-class talents in sports and beyond.”
As part of the engagement, Governor Otti officially unveiled the masterplan for the Abia Stadium City, a landmark project designed to transform sports infrastructure in the state.
The proposed Stadium City will feature: A state-of-the-art 25,000-capacity main stadium.. Modern training pitches and academies. Indoor sports halls. Sports science and medical centre. Hospitality and commercial facilities. Youth development and talent discovery programmes.
The Abia Stadium City is a key component of the Otti administration’s broader vision to position Abia as a regional hub for sports excellence, entertainment, and economic development. The project is expected to create thousands of direct and indirect jobs while serving as a catalyst for tourism and private sector investment.
Samuel Chukwueze expressed gratitude for the warm reception and pledged his support for the development of football and sports infrastructure in Abia State. He described the Stadium City initiative as “a visionary project that will change the narrative for sports in the South East.”
The Governor was accompanied by top government officials, including the Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, while Chukwueze was joined by members of his team and notable sports personalities.
