Former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party Presidential Candidate in the 2023 election, Mr. Peter Obi, has donated the sum of ₦10 million to Ehime General Hospital in Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State.
The donation was made during a personal visit by Mr. Obi to the hospital, where he was warmly received by the Catholic Archbishop of Owerri, Most Rev. Anthony Obinna, hospital management, and community leaders.
The funds are intended to support ongoing renovation efforts and initiatives aimed at improving healthcare delivery, including plans to establish a College of Nursing Sciences at the facility.
While presenting the cheque, Mr. Obi emphasized the critical importance of healthcare to national development and urged governments at all levels, as well as private individuals and organizations, to invest more meaningfully in the sector.“Healthcare remains one of the most essential pillars of any serious society.
We must prioritize the well-being of our people by ensuring access to quality and affordable medical services. This small contribution is to support the good work being done here and to encourage broader collaboration in strengthening our health infrastructure,” Obi stated.
He commended the hospital’s management and partners for their commitment to serving the people of Ehime Mbano and surrounding communities despite existing challenges, describing the initiative as a model of public-private and faith-based collaboration.Mr. Obi reiterated his long-standing commitment to supporting education and healthcare initiatives across Nigeria, noting that such investments are vital to building a healthier, more productive population and reducing the burden on tertiary health institutions.
