Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, has given a firm assurance to residents of the state that his administration is working tirelessly with security agencies to secure the safe rescue and return of schoolchildren and teachers abducted in Oriire Local Government Area.

The governor made the commitment while addressing protesters, including social media activist Martins Vincent Otse (VeryDarkMan), who marched to the Governor’s Office in Ibadan to demand action following the kidnapping incident. He emphasized his personal dedication to bringing the victims home safely, describing the rescue operation as highly sensitive to avoid any loss of lives.

“We will do anything to rescue the children. The operation to rescue them is a special type of operation because we do not want to lose any of those children,” Governor Makinde stated. “I give you the assurance that I, as the governor of Oyo, will bring out those of our children. We are working tirelessly with all relevant security agencies, and we will not relent until they are safely reunited with their families.”

The abductions occurred around May 15, 2026, when gunmen attacked schools including Baptist Nursery and Primary School in Yawota, Community Grammar School, and L.A. Primary School in Ahoro-Esiele, Oriire LGA. Reports indicate that a number of primary and secondary pupils along with teachers were taken, with some victims reportedly held in the Old Oyo National Park area.

Governor Makinde has visited affected families to offer condolences and urge unity, patience, and cooperation with security efforts, stressing that this is not a time for blame but for collective support in rescuing the victims. He noted ongoing coordination with security chiefs and acknowledged sacrifices made by operatives, including the loss of personnel.

The state government continues to collaborate with federal authorities and security agencies on intelligence-led operations. Additional measures, such as suspending school excursions and strengthening security, have been implemented to prevent further incidents.

Governor Makinde called on all residents to remain calm and support the rescue mission, expressing confidence that the abducted children and teachers will be safely returned.
