His Royal Majesty, Oba Ewuare II, the Oba of Benin, has formally announced Wednesday, July 2, 2026, as the date for a special traditional rite to place curses on all individuals involved in kidnapping and other forms of criminality affecting the Benin Kingdom and Nigeria at large.

The revered monarch made the announcement during a gathering of traditional chiefs, priests, and palace functionaries, expressing deep concern over the rising wave of abductions, insecurity, and other social vices plaguing the region and the country.

Oba Ewuare II stated that the spiritual exercise is aimed at invoking the ancestral powers of the Benin Kingdom against those perpetrating evil, particularly kidnappers, bandits, and their sponsors.

“The Benin Kingdom will not fold its hands while criminals terrorize our people. On July 2, 2026, we shall perform the necessary traditional rites and invoke the appropriate curses on all kidnappers, their collaborators, and anyone involved in these heinous crimes. Let the ancestors and the land itself reject them,” the Oba declared.

The monarch further warned that the spiritual consequences of these curses would be far-reaching and irreversible for those who continue in such criminal activities. He called on all well-meaning Nigerians, especially residents of Edo State and the Benin Kingdom, to support the initiative through prayers and righteous living.

Oba Ewuare II emphasized that this traditional measure complements ongoing security efforts by government and law enforcement agencies, stressing the need for collective action in restoring peace and security.

The Palace urged the general public to regard the date with the solemnity it deserves and to continue supporting efforts towards a crime-free society.
