President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended warm congratulations to Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), CGC Adewale Adeniyi, on his re-election as Chairperson of the World Customs Organisation (WCO) Council.

President Tinubu described the re-election as a resounding endorsement of Nigeria’s leadership in international customs administration and a proud moment for the nation.

“I congratulate my brother, Comptroller-General Adewale Adeniyi, on his well-deserved re-election as Chairperson of the World Customs Organisation Council,” President Tinubu said. “This achievement reflects the high level of professionalism, innovation, and integrity that you have brought to the Nigeria Customs Service. It equally underscores Nigeria’s growing influence and respected voice in global trade governance.”

The President noted that Adeniyi’s re-election will further strengthen Nigeria’s role in shaping international customs policies, enhancing trade facilitation, and supporting the government’s economic reform agenda, particularly in revenue generation, border security, and ease of doing business.

CGC Adeniyi was first elected to the prestigious position in 2023, becoming the first Nigerian to hold the office. His re-election is expected to consolidate gains made in modernizing Nigeria’s customs operations, implementing the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) objectives, and fostering stronger collaboration among WCO member nations.

President Tinubu commended the entire leadership and personnel of the Nigeria Customs Service for their dedication and urged them to sustain the momentum in delivering efficient, transparent, and technology-driven customs services.

The World Customs Organisation is the independent intergovernmental body whose mission is to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of customs administrations worldwide. Its Council serves as the highest decision-making body of the organisation.
