The Honourable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has reaffirmed that his support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027 remains firm and unwavering. He clarified that this support is directed solely at the President and does not extend to the All Progressives Congress (APC) or prevent the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from fielding candidates in other elections.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, the Minister emphasised: “What I said and stand for is that I will mobilise support for the re-election of the President. I never promised anyone that PDP will not field candidates to contest governorship, National Assembly and States House of Assembly elections.”

Wike stressed that the rainbow coalition has no affiliation with the APC. “Most importantly, the rainbow coalition has nothing to do with the APC. Rather, it is our own way of mobilising support across political parties for Mr President, who has done well to deserve a second term,” he stated.

The Minister recalled that he never held discussions with the APC before he and other members of the G5 supported Tinubu in the 2023 presidential election. He maintained that his position for 2027 remains focused exclusively on the President: “And for 2027, my support is for the President only.”

Wike further noted that politics is local, urging those facing challenges in their states to resolve them rather than using the President’s re-election to stir sentiments. He added that it is not his responsibility to help politicians win elections in their respective states, stressing the need for genuine mobilisation of support from the polling units.
