The Lagos State Government proudly announces the reopening of the Odo Iya Alaro Bridge in the Maryland area today, September 16, 2024. This significant infrastructure has been rehabilitated ahead of schedule, with work completed in just 54 days instead of the initially projected 90 days.
The rehabilitation project, which commenced on July 22, 2024, was executed by the Lagos State Ministry of Works. It aimed to enhance traffic flow and improve connectivity between the Mainland and Island, addressing long-standing congestion issues that have affected commuters in the region.
Commissioner for Transport, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, expressed gratitude to the residents for their patience and cooperation during the closure. “We are delighted to inform all road users that the rehabilitation of the Odo Iya Alaro Bridge has been completed ahead of schedule,” Osiyemi stated. “Your willingness to navigate alternative routes during this period was crucial in ensuring the swift progress of this important project.”
The reopening of the bridge is expected to significantly ease movement for thousands of commuters who rely on this vital route daily. The state government also acknowledged the efforts of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) for their exemplary work in managing traffic during the rehabilitation phase.
At the reopening event, Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat emphasized a zero-tolerance policy towards vandalism and infrastructure abuse. He warned potential offenders about the severe consequences of damaging government property, underscoring the importance of preserving public assets for future generations.
Osiyemi concluded by reiterating the government's commitment to continuous infrastructure development and maintenance across Lagos State. “We appreciate your continued support as we strive to enhance our city’s infrastructure for better living conditions,” he added.
The Lagos State Government remains dedicated to improving transport systems and ensuring safe and efficient commuting for all residents.
