Governors elected under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are currently convened in a high-level closed-door meeting at the Zamfara State Government House in Gusau. The gathering, hosted by Governor Dauda Lawal, marks a pivotal moment in the party’s strategic roadmap toward the 2027 general elections.

The meeting precedes the PDP’s 102nd National Executive Committee (NEC) session scheduled for Monday, and is expected to address critical issues including the zoning of the party’s presidential ticket. Party insiders reveal that three options are under consideration: zoning the ticket to the South, zoning it to the North, or leaving it open. A growing consensus among stakeholders leans toward zoning it to the South, citing regional equity and political continuity.

Governor Lawal welcomed his counterparts with a dinner reception last night, setting the tone for what is anticipated to be a decisive and forward-looking dialogue. While the full agenda remains undisclosed, sources close to the PDP Governors Forum suggest that the meeting will also touch on internal leadership dynamics and strategies to strengthen party unity ahead of the NEC deliberations.
