The Federal Government of Nigeria has condemned in the strongest terms the brutal killing of 32 worshippers during a mosque attack in Malumfashi Local Government Area of Katsina State. The tragic incident, which occurred during early morning prayers, has left the nation in mourning and sparked an urgent response from security agencies.
In a statement issued by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, the government described the assault as “callous and barbaric,” vowing that the perpetrators will be tracked down and brought to justice without delay.
“Security forces are already on the trail of the criminals, and no stone will be left unturned until they are apprehended and held accountable for their actions,” Idris stated. “This barbaric attack on innocent citizens who had gathered peacefully in prayer is a crime that cannot and will not go unpunished.”
The Minister conveyed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims, the Malumfashi community, and the Katsina State Government. He emphasized that the government shares in the grief of the bereaved and remains resolute in its mission to eradicate terrorism and restore peace across the country.
“Their grief is our grief, and the Government stands with them at this dark hour. May the Almighty grant the departed eternal rest and console the bereaved with the fortitude to bear this painful loss,” the statement read.
The attack is believed to be a retaliatory strike by armed groups following a recent community-led ambush that resulted in the death of several bandits. In response, the government has intensified counter-terrorism operations nationwide, with recent successes including the arrest of top commanders of notorious terrorist factions.
