Nigeria’s pride in the ring, Efe Ajagba, has officially entered the elite ranks of global boxing, securing a coveted spot among the world’s top 10 heavyweight fighters. This milestone marks a historic moment for Nigerian sports and signals Ajagba’s growing dominance on the international stage.

The World Boxing Association (WBA) released its updated rankings today, placing Ajagba at No. 9 following his electrifying victory over Cuban contender Frank Sánchez in Las Vegas last weekend. The unanimous decision win extended Ajagba’s professional record to 22-1, with 17 knockouts — a testament to his raw power and technical evolution.

Ajagba’s rise is being celebrated across Nigeria, with fans and sports officials hailing him as a national hero. The Nigerian Boxing Federation (NBF) released a statement applauding his achievement: “Efe Ajagba’s ascent into the top 10 is a victory not just for him, but for every aspiring boxer in Nigeria. He has shown that discipline, resilience, and belief can take you to the pinnacle of global sport.”

With his new ranking, Ajagba is now in contention for high-profile matchups against heavyweight giants such as Oleksandr Usyk, Tyson Fury, and Anthony Joshua. Promoters are already hinting at a potential title eliminator bout in early 2026.

Ajagba, speaking from his training camp in California, expressed gratitude and determination: “This is just the beginning. I’m proud to represent Nigeria, and I’m coming for the world title.”
