Nigerian security agencies have successfully rescued all the pupils and teachers abducted nearly two months ago from schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The victims, comprising approximately 39 pupils and 7 teachers from Baptist Nursery and Primary School in Yawota, L.A. Primary School, and Community Grammar School in Esiele, were kidnapped on May 15, 2026, during coordinated attacks by armed gunmen. One teacher was tragically killed during the initial assault.
Following sustained intelligence-led operations and collaboration between the Nigerian Army, Police, and other security forces, the hostages have been freed and are receiving medical and psychological support. Emotional reunions with families are underway amid scenes of joy and relief across the affected communities.
Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde welcomed the development, thanking the security agencies for their relentless efforts. “The safe return of our children and teachers is a testament to the commitment of our security forces. We will continue to strengthen school safety and ensure that such incidents are prevented in the future,” he stated.
Security agencies confirmed that several suspects linked to the kidnapping have been apprehended in connection with the operation. Investigations are ongoing to bring all perpetrators to justice.
This successful rescue underscores the Nigerian government’s zero-tolerance stance on kidnapping and its dedication to protecting citizens, particularly vulnerable children and educators.
