Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume, representing Borno South Senatorial District, has commended the Nigerian security forces for their swift and successful rescue of abducted schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo State, while calling on them to immediately shift focus to securing the release of 79 Nigerians still held captive in his constituency in Borno State.

Speaking during a recent television interview, Senator Ndume praised the military’s professional handling of the Oyo rescue operation, which saw the safe recovery of all abducted pupils and teachers from Oriire Local Government Area without ransom payment. He urged the armed forces to replicate this success in Borno, where hostages continue to endure captivity under harsh conditions.

“Rescue the 79 held captive in Borno as you did in Oyo,” Senator Ndume stated. He highlighted that approximately 42 individuals from his senatorial district, including over 30 recently abducted from the Lassa area, remain in captivity, alongside more than 50 others held in a separate location.

The Senator appealed directly to the military high command to intensify intelligence-led operations and deploy necessary resources to the affected communities in Borno South. He emphasized the urgent humanitarian situation facing women, children, and other vulnerable residents, many of whom have been separated from their families for extended periods.

Senator Ndume reiterated his confidence in the Nigerian military’s capacity, referencing their recent successes in rescuing hundreds of hostages from Boko Haram and bandit strongholds in the Northeast. He called for sustained collaboration between federal security agencies, state governments, and local communities to address the ongoing security challenges in the region.

“The military has demonstrated excellence in Oyo. We now call on them to turn their full attention to Borno and bring our people home safely,” he added.

The Senator also urged the Federal Government to enhance support for the armed forces, including improved equipment and welfare for troops, to ensure lasting peace and security across Nigeria’s Northeast.

Senator Ndume remains committed to advocating for the safe return of all abducted persons and the reconstruction of affected communities in Borno State.
