Nigeria’s sprint sensation and world record holder, Tobi Amusan, delivered a stellar performance at the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, securing a silver medal in the women’s 100m hurdles final.

Amusan crossed the finish line in 12.29 seconds, narrowly edged out by Switzerland’s Ditaji Kambundji, who claimed gold with a national record of 12.24 seconds. The bronze went to Grace Stark of the United States, who clocked 12.34 seconds, while fellow American Masai Russell finished fourth in 12.44 seconds.

This marks Nigeria’s first medal at the Tokyo championships and adds to Amusan’s growing legacy as one of the most consistent and formidable hurdlers on the global stage. Her silver medal follows a commanding semifinal win earlier in the day, where she posted 12.36 seconds, setting the tone for a thrilling final.

Amusan’s performance is a powerful comeback after missing the finals at the Paris 2024 Olympics, reaffirming her status as a world-class athlete and a beacon of inspiration for Nigerian sports.

“Tobi continues to elevate the profile of Nigerian athletics. Her resilience and excellence are a testament to her dedication and the strength of our sporting spirit,” said a spokesperson from the Athletics Federation of Nigeria.
