In a bold move to enhance productivity and restore dignity within the Abia State Civil Service, Governor Alex Otti has officially handed over 28 brand-new Geely Emgrand vehicles to Permanent Secretaries across the state.

The presentation ceremony took place at the newly commissioned Michael Okpara Auditorium in Umuahia, where Governor Otti reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to empowering public servants with the tools necessary for effective service delivery. “Gone are the days of coming to work with keke,” Otti declared, referencing the tricycles many officials previously relied on for transportation.

The Governor emphasized that the appointments of the Permanent Secretaries were made based on merit, transparency, and competence, and that the vehicle donation was a continuation of his administration’s broader reforms aimed at revitalizing the civil service. “This gesture is not just about mobility—it’s about restoring pride and professionalism to the public sector,” he said.

Each vehicle was presented with complete documentation, and Governor Otti assured the recipients that no financial burden would be placed on them. “Your documents are ready, so are the details in terms of amortization. You don’t pay anything,” he added.

The event also served as a platform for unveiling the state’s e-governance initiative, which aims to digitize administrative processes and improve transparency across government operations.

Permanent Secretaries expressed gratitude for the gesture, describing it as a morale booster and a sign of renewed respect for their roles. The move has been widely praised by civil society groups and governance advocates as a step toward rebuilding trust in public institutions.
