Vice President Kashim Shettima on Wednesday visited survivors of the multiple bomb explosions that rocked Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, on Monday night, conveying the heartfelt condolences of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the entire Federal Government to the victims and their families.
The Vice President, who was accompanied by the Director-General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Zubaida Umar, went to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH), where many of the injured are receiving treatment. He personally interacted with the victims, assuring them of the government’s full support for their recovery and well-being.
In his remarks, Vice President Shettima described the attacks, which claimed the lives of approximately 25 innocent citizens and left over 100 others injured, as “senseless and unjustifiable acts of terror.” He stressed that no religion sanctions the killing of innocent lives and prayed for the repose of the souls of the deceased.
“On behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, I extend our deepest sympathies to the government and people of Borno State, especially the families who lost loved ones in this tragic incident,” Shettima said. “We stand with the injured and assure them that the Federal Government will provide all necessary support for their treatment and rehabilitation.”
The Vice President reiterated the Federal Government’s unwavering commitment to ending insecurity in Borno State and across the country. He disclosed that, beyond presidential directives to security chiefs, the government is investing heavily in advanced military hardware, surveillance equipment, and other critical logistics to strengthen operations against terrorist groups.
“Those responsible for these heinous attacks will face the full weight of the law. The madness of terrorism will soon be brought to an end,” he declared, adding that the Federal Government remains resolute in its collaboration with the Borno State Government and security agencies to restore lasting peace and stability to the region.
Vice President Shettima also commended the resilience of the people of Borno and urged them to continue supporting the efforts of security forces in the fight against terrorism.
The visit underscores the Tinubu administration’s proactive approach to addressing security challenges and providing immediate relief to affected communities.
