Troops of the Joint Task Force North Central, Operation SAVANNAH SHIELD,
have intensified their crackdown on terrorists and kidnappers across Kwara and
Niger States, recording notable successes in recent operations. This was
disclosed by Major General Michael Onoja, Director
of Defence Media Operations on 20
March 2026. According to the report, troops have expanded their operational
reach into forest corridors and border communities known to harbour criminal
elements, applying sustained pressure on terrorist networks and their supply
chains. In a key operation on 15 March 2026, troops at Forward Operating Base
Kaiama in Kwara State apprehended a suspect attempting to supply three motorcycles
intended for terrorist use, effectively disrupting a major logistics and
mobility link for the criminals.
Further follow-up operations led to the arrest
of two suspected ISWAP and JAS terrorists who had arrived in Kaiama to receive
the motorcycles for onward movement to collaborators in Nuku Village.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects have already provided
credible and actionable intelligence, which is expected to support ongoing
efforts to track and dismantle the wider terrorist network. These breakthroughs
highlight the effectiveness of intelligence-led operations and the vigilance of
troops in denying criminals the resources needed to operate.
The Armed Forces of Nigeria continue to
demonstrate a high level of professionalism, resilience and commitment in
safeguarding communities across the North Central region. By targeting not just
the fighters but also their logistics networks, troops are strategically
weakening the operational capacity of terrorist groups. Such proactive measures
ensure that threats are neutralized before they escalate, thereby protecting
innocent lives and preserving peace in affected areas.
Nigerians
are encouraged to remain confident in the efforts of the military and to
support security agencies by providing timely and useful information. The Armed
Forces of Nigeria
assure the public that operations will remain relentless and focused until all
criminal elements are eliminated. With sustained collaboration between the
military and citizens, the path to lasting peace and security becomes
increasingly achievable.
