Vice President Kashim Shettima has returned to Abuja following a week-long diplomatic mission that included representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York and concluding high-level engagements in Germany.
During his address to the UN General Assembly, Vice President Shettima delivered President Tinubu’s national statement, advocating for comprehensive reforms within the United Nations system. He emphasized Nigeria’s call for a permanent seat on the UN Security Council and championed Africa’s sovereignty over its estimated $700 billion in mineral resources.
In New York, Shettima held bilateral talks with UN Secretary-General António Guterres, who commended Nigeria’s leadership and its bid for enhanced global representation. The Vice President also showcased Nigeria’s $200 billion energy transition opportunity to global investors, reinforcing the country’s commitment to sustainable development.
Shettima’s engagements extended to strategic partnerships with the United Kingdom, the Gates Foundation, and other international stakeholders, focusing on trade, healthcare, education, and digital inclusion. He also met with members of the Nigerian diaspora, assuring them of continued involvement in national development under the Tinubu administration.
Following the UNGA, Vice President Shettima traveled to Germany for crucial economic discussions with senior officials of Deutsche Bank. The meetings explored avenues for collaboration in Nigeria’s developmental initiatives, particularly in finance, infrastructure, and energy.
