In a landmark move aimed at empowering youth and revitalizing public service delivery, Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has approved a significant increase in monthly allowances for members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) serving in the state. The new structure raises payments from a previous ₦4,000 to as much as ₦50,000, depending on deployment category.

The announcement was made through a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Njoku Ukoha, who emphasized that the decision reflects the administration’s commitment to youth welfare and strategic investment in education and healthcare.

Governor Otti stated that the initiative is part of a broader agenda to close staffing gaps in critical sectors and attract skilled young professionals to serve in underserved communities.

“We recognize the sacrifices and contributions of our youth corps members. This new allowance structure is not just a token of appreciation, but a strategic step to strengthen our education and health systems,” said Governor Otti.
