The faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyal to Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has announced the expulsion of several prominent figures, including Governors Seyi Makinde, Bala Mohammed, Dauda Lawal, and former Deputy National Chairman (South), Chief Bode George.
The crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has deepened as the factional National Executive Committee (NEC) aligned with the Honourable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, ratified the expulsion of key party leaders.
The NEC also announced the dissolution of State Executive Councils in Bauchi, Oyo, Zamfara, Yobe, Lagos, Edo, and Ekiti States, directing the immediate constitution of caretaker committees to oversee fresh congresses.
This decision follows the contentious PDP national convention in Ibadan, where Wike and his allies were themselves expelled. In response, the Wike-led faction convened a parallel NEC meeting at the party’s national headquarters in Abuja, escalating tensions between rival camps.
Party insiders describe the move as a “drastic purge” aimed at consolidating control and countering what Wike’s faction views as anti-party activities. The expulsions mark one of the most significant shake-ups in PDP’s recent history, underscoring the widening rift between factions.
The Wike-led faction reaffirmed its commitment to “rescuing the PDP from hijackers” and insisted that the expulsions were necessary to restore discipline and integrity within the party. Meanwhile, expelled leaders are expected to contest the decision, setting the stage for further confrontation in the coming weeks.
