The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced a major milestone in Nigeria’s democratic journey, with the Chairman, Joash Amupitan, SAN, declaring that the introduction of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) has successfully ended the problem of identity theft in the nation’s elections.
Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja, the INEC Chairman emphasized that BVAS has transformed the accreditation process by ensuring that only legitimate voters are recognized and allowed to cast their ballots.
“With the deployment of BVAS, identity theft in Nigerian elections has become a thing of the past. The technology guarantees that every voter is uniquely verified through both fingerprint and facial recognition, thereby strengthening the integrity of our electoral process,” Amupitan stated.
INEC reaffirmed its commitment to credible, transparent, and inclusive elections, noting that BVAS represents a significant step in restoring public confidence in the electoral system. The Commission assured Nigerians that it will continue to improve electoral technologies to safeguard democracy and uphold the principle of one person, one vote.
