Violence broke out on Tuesday at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Secretariat in Wadata Plaza, Abuja, following a confrontation between rival factions of the party over a leadership dispute.
The clash drew large crowds of supporters, leading to heightened tension around the Secretariat. In response, police officers deployed to the scene fired teargas to disperse the gathering and restore order.
Authorities confirmed that the intervention was necessary to prevent the situation from escalating further and to safeguard lives and property in the area. Security personnel have since taken control of the premises, while investigations into the incident are ongoing.
The PDP leadership has yet to issue an official statement regarding the confrontation, but the incident underscores the deep divisions within the party as it grapples with internal disputes.
