Katsina United Football Club categorically denies the disturbing and unfounded reports circulating in the media regarding alleged violence and the supposed death of Barau FC player Nana Abraham during our NPFL matchday 12 encounter.
Contrary to claims made by Barau FC and certain media outlets, no player died or suffered life-threatening injuries during the match. The club has reviewed video footage and eyewitness accounts, which clearly show that Nana Abraham was substituted in the 71st minute and walked off the pitch unaided. The alleged “slitting of the throat” is a fabricated narrative, as evidenced by footage showing the player post-match with bandages that appeared staged and fell off during filming.
We acknowledge that tensions rose following Barau FC’s equalizing goal in the 69th minute, but security protocols were promptly activated, and the match resumed safely after a brief pause. Katsina United remains committed to upholding the integrity of the game and ensuring the safety of all players, officials, and fans.
We urge the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) and relevant authorities to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation into the incident and the dissemination of false information. Katsina United will cooperate fully and provide all necessary evidence to support the truth.
