The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has confirmed the arrest of a social media influencer accused of promoting and selling cookies infused with cannabis through online platforms.
According to NDLEA officials, the arrest followed a surveillance operation targeting the suspect’s digital activities, which allegedly involved marketing and distributing the illicit products to followers across various social media channels. The agency stated that the influencer was apprehended in Lagos after undercover operatives traced multiple online transactions linked to the sale of the cannabis-laden cookies.
The NDLEA emphasized that the operation reflects its ongoing commitment to curbing drug abuse and trafficking, particularly among young people who are increasingly exposed to narcotics through digital spaces. Authorities noted that the suspect’s influence and reach on social media posed a significant risk, as the products were being glamorized and promoted as harmless treats.
The suspect is currently in custody and will face charges under Nigeria’s drug control laws. The NDLEA reiterated its warning to individuals and businesses against engaging in the sale or distribution of narcotics in any form, stressing that offenders will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
The agency further urged parents, guardians, and community leaders to remain vigilant and educate young people about the dangers of drug abuse, particularly in the digital age where illegal substances are increasingly marketed through unconventional channels.
This arrest underscores the NDLEA’s broader strategy to monitor online spaces and dismantle networks that exploit social media to promote drug-related activities. The case is expected to proceed to court in the coming weeks.
