The University of Jos chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has issued a stern warning to the Federal Government, demanding the immediate implementation of previously agreed-upon terms or face industrial action. The union expressed deep dissatisfaction with the government's failure to release withheld salaries, wage award arrears, promotion arrears, and the ₦50 billion revitalization fund promised to federal universities.

In a statement signed by Prof. Jurbe Joseph Molwus, Chairperson of UNIJOS ASUU, the union recalled that it had issued a four-week ultimatum on October 22, 2025, urging the government to resolve all outstanding issues. Two weeks into the ultimatum, ASUU says there has been “not much progress”, and members remain unpaid despite government claims of fund releases.

“As we prepare for our National Executive Council (NEC) meeting scheduled for November 8–9, we expected that these payments would have been made by now. What we get instead are press statements from the Honourable Minister of Education, which do not reflect the reality on ground,” said Prof. Molwus.

The union also accused the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, of misleading the public and called for his removal over alleged incompetence and failure to deliver on promises.

ASUU emphasized that the previous suspension of strike action was a gesture of goodwill and respect for collective bargaining. However, if the government fails to act within the remaining two weeks of the ultimatum, the union will have no choice but to resume strike action to press for its demands.
