The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has confirmed the arrest of former Anambra State Governor, Dr. Chris Ngige, in Abuja on Tuesday. According to the EFCC, the arrest is connected to an ongoing investigation into financial matters involving actions taken during and after his time in public office.
In a brief statement, the Commission noted that Ngige was taken into custody “for questioning” and emphasized that the arrest is part of a routine investigative process.
EFCC officials stated: “Dr. Chris Ngige is currently assisting the Commission with inquiries related to financial transactions under review. The investigation is ongoing, and more details will be released as appropriate.”
The anti-graft agency also urged the public to remain calm and avoid speculation, stressing that all actions being taken are in line with the Commission’s mandate to fight corruption and promote transparency.
Ngige’s representatives have acknowledged the arrest, assuring that he is ready to cooperate fully with investigators and confident that the process will clarify the issues raised.
