Manchester United is pleased to announce the appointment of Michael Carrick as Interim Head Coach until the end of the 2025-2026 season. Carrick, a club legend and former midfielder, returns to Old Trafford following the departure of Ruben Amorim.
Carrick, 44, previously served as Interim Manager in 2021, overseeing three matches after Ole Gunnar Solskjær's exit, including a memorable victory against Arsenal and a draw with Chelsea.
His deep understanding of the club's ethos, combined with his successful managerial tenure at Middlesbrough, made him the ideal candidate to steady the ship during this transitional period.
Joining Carrick on the coaching staff will be former England assistant manager Steve Holland as his number two, along with Jonathan Woodgate, Jonny Evans, and Travis Binnion.
This experienced team is poised to bring stability and tactical acumen to the squad as they navigate the remainder of the Premier League campaign and upcoming fixtures, including the highly anticipated Manchester derby.
Omar Berrada, Chief Executive of Manchester United, said: "We are delighted to welcome Michael back to the club. His passion for Manchester United, proven track record as a player and coach, and alignment with our vision make him the perfect fit for this role. Michael's previous experience here gives him an unparalleled insight into what it takes to succeed at Old Trafford."
Michael Carrick commented: "It's an honor to return to Manchester United, a club that means everything to me. I'm excited to work with this talented group of players and staff to deliver results for our incredible fans. Together, we'll focus on the challenges ahead and strive to uphold the standards that define this great club."
Carrick will meet the players today and begin preparations immediately. His first match in charge will be against Manchester City this weekend.
