Controversial Nigerian musician Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, was arraigned today before the Ogun State High Court in Onipanu, Ota. He faces a nine-count charge bordering on assault, theft, causing bodily harm, and resisting arrest. The court has ordered his remand in custody pending further proceedings.
Portable pleaded not guilty to all charges during the hearing. However reports indicate he became emotional, weeping bitterly in court. The prosecution alleges that Portable conspired with others to assault Osimosu Emmanuel Oluwafemi and steal items, including a Yamaha H55 studio equipment. Additional charges stem from an incident where he allegedly assaulted a police officer and resisted arrest.
Ogun State Police spokesperson Oluseyi Babaseyi confirmed the charges, emphasizing the severity of the accusations. The case also involves claims of car theft, with Portable accused of stealing a vehicle in a separate incident. The judge denied bail, citing the risk of interference with ongoing investigations, and adjourned the matter for a bail application hearing on January 19, 2026.
This development follows Portable's recent history of legal troubles, including prior convictions for assault. The singer, known for his hit songs and outspoken personality, has often made headlines for controversial behavior. Authorities have condemned any alleged assault on law enforcement, underscoring the need for accountability.
The Ogun State Police Command urges the public to allow the judicial process to unfold without interference. Further updates will be provided as the case progresses.
