Through
aggressive offensive operations, troops targeted bandit hideouts and transit
routes in Gusau, Kaura Namoda, Talata Mafara, Maru, and Tsafe Local Government
Areas of Zamfara State; Kano Municipal Council and Tsanyawa LGA in Kano State;
Batsari, Danmusa, Daura, Kankara, Rimi, and Sabuwa LGAs in Katsina State; as
well as Katchia LGA in Kaduna State, Arewa LGA in Kebbi State, and Binji, Isa,
and Wuro LGAs in Sokoto State.
The operations
yielded impressive results: nine terrorists were apprehended for interrogation
and prosecution, 26 kidnapped victims were rescued and reunited with their
families amid widespread relief in affected communities, and troops recovered
assorted weapons, vehicles, and livestock previously stolen by the criminals.
All recovered arms and ammunition are in military custody for forensic
analysis, further denying the terrorists vital resources.
According to Major General Onoja, “these achievements have disrupted the ransom-driven economy that
sustains banditry, restored civilian confidence, encouraged greater
intelligence sharing from local populations, and contributed to a noticeable
decline in violent incidents across the North-West theatre. Farming and
commercial activities are gradually resuming in areas long plagued by
insecurity”.
In a boost to
ongoing efforts, the Zamfara State Government donated 25 highly sophisticated
Armoured Personnel Carriers to Operation FANSAN YAMMA on 18 February 2026. The
Chief of Defence Staff has conveyed profound appreciation to the Zamfara State
Government for this timely and patriotic gesture, which will significantly
enhance troop mobility and operational effectiveness in challenging terrain.
These sustained
successes reflect the exceptional professionalism, courage, and operational
prowess of the Armed Forces of Nigeria as they confront one of the country’s
most persistent security challenges. Under the strategic leadership of the
Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, the military has maintained a
coordinated, intelligence-driven approach that is systematically dismantling
terrorist networks across multiple theatres.
General
Oluyede’s resolute vision, emphasis on inter-agency synergy, and unwavering
commitment to the welfare and equipping of troops have been pivotal in driving
these gains. His stewardship continues to inspire confidence that the era of
widespread insecurity in Nigeria is drawing to a resolute end, paving the way
for lasting peace, economic revival, and national stability. Defence Headquarters urges international community to acknowledge the sacrifices and
achievements of the Armed
Forces of Nigeria in containing threats
that extend beyond its borders and contribute to regional security in West
Africa.
