Throughout the
past week, troops maintained relentless pressure on terrorist groups,
conducting offensive operations in Abadam, Bama, Biu, Damboa, Gwoza, Kukawa,
and Konduga Local Government Areas of Borno State, as well as Damaturu, Geidam,
and Gujba LGAs in Yobe State. These areas have long been vulnerable to
terrorist infiltration and attacks on soft targets. In fierce engagements,
scores of terrorists were neutralised, seven suspects were apprehended, and
three kidnapped victims were rescued and safely reunited with their families.
All arrested individuals and recovered weapons are in military custody pending
preliminary investigation and handover to relevant prosecuting agencies.
In a separate
incident on 16 February 2026, troops on routine patrol along the
Maiduguri-Magumeri axis intercepted five suspected individuals carrying
Thirty-Seven Million Naira (₦37,000,000.00) in cash. The suspects claimed the
money was intended for distribution to vulnerable communities on behalf of the
international NGO Action Against Hunger. Both the individuals and the seized
funds are now in custody for verification and investigation to rule out any
possible links to terrorist financing or diversion of humanitarian aid.
On 19 February
2026, acting on intelligence about terrorist logistics movement in Madagali LGA
of Adamawa State, troops arrested Mallam Dauda Usman Gubula at Madagali Motor
Park. Items recovered included two aerial drones and 20 solar power banks. The
suspect remains in custody for further action.
These latest
operations demonstrate the Nigerian Armed Forces’ extraordinary
professionalism, vigilance, and operational effectiveness in one of the world’s
most challenging counter-terrorism theatres. Through precise
intelligence-driven raids, rapid response to threats, and meticulous follow-up
investigations, the military continues to degrade terrorist networks, disrupt
their supply chains, and protect civilian lives.
The sustained
successes of Operation HADIN KAI not only restore hope and stability to communities
long affected by insurgency but also contribute meaningfully to regional and
global security. By denying terrorist groups freedom of movement and financing,
Nigeria’s troops are helping to contain a threat that has implications far
beyond its borders. The courage and sacrifice of these service members deserve
recognition and appreciation from the international community as they uphold
peace and security in the Lake Chad Basin region.
