The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Olufemi Christopher Oluyede, and the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, have landed in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, in direct response to the recent multiple bomb explosions that rocked parts of the state.

The service chiefs arrived at the Maiduguri Air Force Base on the directive of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to assess the security situation on ground, boost the morale of frontline troops, and review ongoing counter-terrorism strategies under Operation Hadin Kai.

The visit follows Monday night's suspected suicide bombings in at least three locations in Maiduguri, which resulted in significant casualties and injuries. The explosions have been widely condemned, with no group yet claiming responsibility.

Upon arrival, the CDS and COAS were received by the Theatre Commander, Joint Task Force (Operation Hadin Kai), and other senior military officers. They proceeded immediately to the headquarters of the Joint Task Force for high-level briefings and strategic engagements with field commanders.

General Oluyede and Lt. Gen. Shaibu are expected to interact directly with troops, inspect operational readiness, and hold discussions with Borno State government officials and other security stakeholders.

The aim is to reinforce the military’s resolve and devise immediate measures to prevent further attacks while intensifying efforts to degrade the capabilities of terrorist groups operating in the North-East.

The Defence Headquarters reiterates the commitment of the Armed Forces of Nigeria to the safety of citizens and the total defeat of insurgency and terrorism in the region.

Additional support and resources have been mobilised to strengthen operations in Borno and adjoining states.

The Nigerian military urges residents to remain vigilant, report suspicious activities to security agencies, and cooperate fully with ongoing efforts to restore lasting peace.
