MTN Nigeria has announced plans to compensate subscribers affected by poor network service, following a directive from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC). The move underscores growing regulatory efforts to enhance consumer protection and improve service delivery across Nigeria’s telecommunications sector.

In a statement issued on Thursday, MTN Nigeria confirmed it will provide compensation to customers who experienced service disruptions during the months of November 2025 through January 2026. The compensation will be implemented in accordance with NCC guidelines, targeting subscribers in areas where network performance fell below required quality standards.

The NCC had earlier mandated telecom operators to compensate users for service failures, emphasizing accountability and adherence to established Quality of Service benchmarks. The directive forms part of broader regulatory measures aimed at ensuring consumers are not adversely impacted by persistent network issues.

MTN Nigeria reiterated its commitment to customer satisfaction, stating that subscribers remain central to its operations. The company noted that all eligible users in affected locations would receive compensation for the identified periods, reinforcing its alignment with the regulator’s consumer-focused policies.

Beyond compensation, MTN Nigeria outlined an aggressive investment strategy to address network challenges and meet growing demand for voice and data services. The telecom giant disclosed plans to accelerate capital expenditure on infrastructure upgrades, improve network resilience, and strengthen collaboration with tower infrastructure providers to enhance service reliability.

The company also acknowledged external factors affecting service quality, including infrastructure limitations and environmental disruptions, while affirming its commitment to working closely with regulators and industry stakeholders to resolve these challenges.

This development comes amid increasing scrutiny of telecom operators in Nigeria, as authorities intensify enforcement actions to improve connectivity standards in Africa’s largest telecommunications market.
