President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the immediate installation of over 5,000 artificial intelligence-powered surveillance cameras across Plateau State as part of a comprehensive strategy to tackle the recurring violence and restore lasting peace in the region.

The directive was issued during a high-level engagement with political, traditional, and community leaders in Jos following the recent deadly attacks, including the Palm Sunday carnage in Angwan Rukuba that claimed over 27 lives. President Tinubu vowed that such incidents “will not repeat itself,” emphasizing zero tolerance for perpetrators of violence in the state.

“The Honourable Minister for Communications is here to give you assurance that we are going to install immediately a network of cameras that will help the law enforcement agencies to identify the troublemakers instantly over 5,000 of that,” President Tinubu stated.

The President also ordered security chiefs, including the Inspector-General of Police and the Chief of Army Staff who are already on ground in Plateau State to launch a full-scale manhunt for those responsible for the recent killings. He assured residents that the Federal Government will leave no stone unturned to apprehend the culprits and bring them to justice.

The deployment of the AI-enabled CCTV network forms a critical component of the government’s enhanced security architecture. The cameras will provide real-time intelligence, strengthen surveillance capabilities, and enable swift identification and tracking of criminal elements, thereby supporting law enforcement agencies in preventing future attacks and ensuring rapid response.

In addition to the surveillance initiative, the President pledged government support for victims of the attacks and their families, while calling on all stakeholders to embrace peace and reject any form of violence or division.

President Tinubu reiterated his commitment to the safety and prosperity of all Nigerians, stating that the government remains resolute in its determination to end the cycle of killings and restore the harmony that Plateau State was historically known for.
