The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Jigawa State has formally affirmed Alhaji Mustapha Sule Lamido, son of former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido, as its sole governorship candidate for the 2027 general elections.
Thousands of PDP members and stakeholders gathered in Dutse on Sunday, May 24, 2026, where Mustapha Sule Lamido emerged unopposed through a consensus affirmation by voice vote across all 27 Local Government Areas of the state. Barrister Isa Ahmed, Chairman of the PDP Primary Election Committee, officially declared him the party’s candidate, stating that the process was peaceful, transparent, and in full compliance with the party’s constitution and guidelines.
In his acceptance speech, Mustapha Sule Lamido expressed gratitude to the party leadership and members for the overwhelming support and pledged to rebuild Jigawa into a state that works for all.
“I am deeply honoured by this endorsement. With your support, we will rebuild Jigawa, restore its glory, tackle insecurity, create jobs for our teeming youth, revive agriculture, and deliver good governance that addresses the current hardships faced by our people,” he stated.
He called on all PDP members and supporters to remain united and work tirelessly towards victory in the 2027 elections.
The affirmation of Mustapha Sule Lamido is seen as a strategic move to strengthen the PDP’s chances of regaining power in Jigawa State, leveraging his experience, wide acceptability, and the political legacy of his father, former Governor Sule Lamido.
