Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has warmly welcomed a major proposed $145 million investment in a solar manufacturing plant, describing it as a transformative step toward positioning Abia as a hub for renewable energy production and industrial growth in Nigeria’s South East region.

Governor Otti praised the initiative for its potential to drive economic development, create thousands of direct and indirect jobs, reduce reliance on imported solar products, and support Nigeria’s broader transition to clean and sustainable energy. The project aligns with his administration’s ongoing efforts to attract private sector investments, strengthen infrastructure, and promote renewable energy solutions across the state.

“This landmark proposed investment is a clear vote of confidence in Abia’s improving business environment,” Governor Otti stated. “We are building a state that is open for business, with reliable power, enhanced security, and a skilled workforce ready to support innovative industries like solar manufacturing. Projects of this magnitude will not only generate employment but also foster technology transfer, boost local content, and contribute significantly to our energy security and environmental sustainability goals.”

The proposed solar manufacturing plant is expected to produce high-quality solar panels, components, and related energy solutions, capitalizing on Abia’s strategic location, entrepreneurial spirit (particularly in Aba), and growing focus on renewable energy. It complements existing and emerging initiatives in the state, including solar power deployments for health facilities and support for mini-grid regulations that unlock private investment in underserved areas.

Governor Otti reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to providing the necessary enabling environment, including infrastructure support, policy clarity, and collaboration with investors to ensure the project’s timely and successful realization. He called on stakeholders, including local communities, traditional leaders, and the private sector, to rally behind such initiatives for the collective prosperity of Abia State.

This development underscores Abia’s resurgence as an attractive destination for impactful investments under Governor Otti’s leadership, building on recent successes in manufacturing, power, education, and agro-industrial projects.
