The operation targets unregistered vehicles as well as those with obscured, defaced, unlawfully covered, or missing number plates, in line with the directives of the Commissioner of Police, CP GIWA, to enhance road safety, combat crime, and ensure compliance with traffic regulations.

In a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, the police emphasized that these violations not only contravene the law but also pose significant security risks, as criminals often exploit such vehicles to evade identification during operations.

“Vehicle owners and operators are urged to ensure their vehicles are properly registered and display clear, visible number plates at all times,” the statement read. “This enforcement will continue without compromise to maintain order and public safety on Enugu roads.”

The impounded vehicles are currently at designated police facilities, where owners are being profiled. Affected individuals are expected to face appropriate sanctions, including prosecution where necessary, in accordance with relevant sections of the National Road Traffic Regulations and other extant laws.

The Command reiterated its commitment to sustained patrols and intelligence-driven operations to rid the state of traffic infractions and associated criminal activities. Motorists are advised to comply fully with registration requirements and avoid any form of plate tampering or concealment.

The public is encouraged to report suspicious vehicles or activities to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency hotlines.
