Former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party Presidential Candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, has expressed deep concerns about alleged systematic harassment by the current Nigerian government, stating that it is deliberately frustrating his legitimate business activities and raising fears for his personal safety and ability to participate in future political processes.

In a recent interview, Obi voiced serious worries about the trajectory of governance in Nigeria and the potential personal risks he faces.

“I am worried that there is a possibility I won’t be alive for the 2027 election,” Obi stated. “This government is doing everything to frustrate every single thing I do for a living.”

The outspoken politician, known for his advocacy of good governance, accountability, and economic reforms, described what he perceives as targeted efforts to undermine his sources of income and public activities. Obi emphasized that these challenges extend beyond politics into his private enterprises, which he maintains are conducted transparently and within the law.

Obi, who garnered significant support in the 2023 presidential election on the platform of the Labour Party, has continued to engage actively in national discourse, frequently criticizing economic policies, insecurity, and governance failures. His latest remarks come amid ongoing national conversations about political transitions, electoral reforms, and the state of opposition voices in Nigeria.

The former governor called on well-meaning Nigerians and the international community to pay closer attention to what he described as shrinking democratic space and the weaponization of state institutions against perceived opponents.

“I remain committed to the cause of a New Nigeria,” Obi added. “But we must address these issues of harassment and intimidation if we are to build a truly democratic society where every citizen can contribute without fear.”

As speculation builds toward the 2027 general elections, Obi’s statements have sparked discussions about political tolerance, the safety of opposition figures, and the health of Nigeria’s democracy.
