Nigerian Afrobeats icon David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has spoken candidly about the profound impact of losing his son, Ifeanyi Adeleke, describing the tragedy as a pivotal moment that reshaped his life and career.
In a heartfelt interview with ABC News’ Rocsi Diaz, Davido reflected on the devastating loss of his three-year-old son, who drowned in a pool at the singer’s Banana Island residence in October 2022. “Stepping away after losing my son and being able to look back into my career gave me a refocus of how I wanted to move forward. It changed my life,” Davido shared.
Despite the unimaginable grief, Davido and his wife, Chioma, found strength in each other and have since become symbols of resilience. “I’m proud of how we bounced back,” he said. “I know how many people randomly come to me at the airport to tell me how my strength has inspired them in hard times.”
The couple’s journey through sorrow has been marked by a new chapter of joy: the birth of their twins in October 2023. “Now, we got twins. They are big and shouting everywhere,” Davido said with a smile. “For us to be able to go through the loss of our son and be able to bounce back in a major way is huge.”
