A coalition of civic advocacy organizations under the banner YouthVote Vanguard has launched a bold campaign urging young people across Nigeria’s South-West region to take proactive steps toward shaping the future by registering and collecting their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking at a press briefing held in Ibadan, Oyo State, the group emphasized the critical role of youth participation in democratic processes, noting that the South-West boasts one of the highest concentrations of eligible but unregistered voters in the country.

“The power to change Nigeria lies in your hands,” said Adebayo Ogunleye, spokesperson for YouthVote Vanguard. “We are calling on every young person—from Lagos to Ekiti—to rise, register, and reclaim their voice through the ballot.”

According to recent data from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), youth turnout in previous elections has been significantly lower than expected, despite making up over 60% of Nigeria’s population. The group warns that political apathy among young voters could undermine efforts to build a more accountable and inclusive government.

“We’re not just asking youths to vote—we’re asking them to lead,” Ogunleye added. “2027 is not just another election. It’s a turning point.”
