The Muslim community of Owo and the entire Ondo State mourn the passing of a revered spiritual leader, Alhaji Ahmad Oladoke Aladesawe, the Chief Imam of Owo and Chairman of the Ondo State League of Imams and Alfas. He died peacefully on the evening of Monday, September 15, 2025, at the Federal Medical Center, Owo, at the age of 91.
Sheikh Aladesawe was a towering figure in Islamic scholarship and interfaith harmony, serving not only as the Chief Imam of Owo but also as the Secretary-General of the League of Imams and Alfas in South West, Edo, and Delta States. His decades-long commitment to religious education, moral guidance, and community development earned him admiration across Nigeria.
The Janazah (Islamic burial rites) will be held today, Tuesday, September 16, at 2:00 PM in his hometown of Owo, in accordance with Islamic tradition.
In a statement, Alhaji Kamorudeen Ishola, a prominent Muslim leader in Owo, described the late Imam as “a respected Islamic scholar and community leader who devoted his life to the growth of Islam in the country”. The National Council of Muslim Youth Organisations (NACOMYO) also expressed deep sorrow, calling him “one of the most supportive pillars of NACOMYO and the greatest Islamic scholar ever lived in this part of the world.”
Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State extended heartfelt condolences, describing Sheikh Aladesawe as “a revered cleric, a spiritual guide of uncommon wisdom, and a source of inspiration to the Muslim Ummah and the larger society.”
