Former Kano State Governor and National Leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has firmly denied widespread speculation suggesting his imminent defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC). In a statement issued through his media office, Kwankwaso described the rumours as “baseless, politically motivated distractions” aimed at undermining his credibility and destabilizing the NNPP.
“I remain fully committed to the ideals and vision of the NNPP,” Kwankwaso stated. “There is no truth whatsoever to claims that I am planning to join the APC. These are fabrications by political opponents who fear the growing influence of our movement.”
The denial comes amid heightened political activity ahead of the 2027 general elections, with several parties courting influential figures to bolster their ranks. Kwankwaso, who has been instrumental in expanding the NNPP’s grassroots appeal, emphasized that his focus remains on building a viable alternative for Nigerians seeking progressive governance.
Party officials also weighed in, reaffirming Kwankwaso’s leadership and dismissing the defection narrative as a smear campaign.
“Senator Kwankwaso is not just a member of NNPP—he is the soul of the party,” said Dr. Agbo Major, NNPP’s National Publicity Secretary. “We urge the public to disregard these rumours and stay focused on our collective mission.”
The NNPP has recently intensified its nationwide mobilization efforts, launching policy dialogues, youth engagement programs, and strategic alliances aimed at strengthening its position as a formidable force in Nigerian politics.
